Electrician Program: How to Choose California State Best Program

Choosing to join an electrician program is the first step if you’re looking to make your mark in the electric field.

To be an electrician, you will need to gain qualifications, a California State electrician program will provide you with all the training, knowledge and expertise necessary in getting you legal and qualified. Once you become an electrician you hold the lives of people in your hands. This means that your expertise can help or harm other people. This is why you should take the time to sift through different electrician programs so that you can choose only the best.

Where Can You Find a California State Electrician Program?

You can only get a good electrician program if you enter the right institute.california electrical-training

While there are lots of electricity-related college degrees which you can take in different schools, there are still some specialized programs for electricians like the program in electrical and electronics engineering. It will all depend on the skills that you would like to learn. Do you want to learn about fabrication of wires? Then you should go into an electrical manufacturing course. Do you want to learn about power maintenance? Then, electrical inspection may be for you. Do you want to learn how to control certain tools or devices? Then, you may want to enter a career in the industrial engineering field or just be a plain technician. It is all up to you.

As you can see, the electrician program that you should be considering should depend on the skills that you want to learn. While any electrician should be knowledgeable in basic codes and wiring, a formal program is still imperative if you are planning to pursue this as a career. This does not end in a degree. There is also an apprenticeship program and certification exam that you must take.

What About Apprenticeship?

A good electrician program will never be complete without an apprenticeship program. You see apprenticeship programs combine on-the-job training for electricians and some basic classroom training. While they take education outside of the classroom and let the students apply the concepts, they also require 4 hours of classroom training each day.

However, there are some requirements that you need to fulfill before you can enter an apprenticeship. Aside from the fact that apprentices need to be at least 18 years of age, the student must also have a high school diploma or a GED with a score of 255 or higher. It is better if they have completed campus programs related to electricity like electrical engineering, engineering technology, electronics engineering or technology electronics engineering though it is not required. You may even be accepted even if you have just taken an online training program. As long as you have been certified by your state as an electrical apprentice, alternatively working in an approved electrical shop. It already shows that you have the basic knowledge in different electrical systems and you can be taken in as an apprentice.

An apprenticeship program is required before you can take electrician certification. You will have to complete a certain number of hours depending on your goal. If you want to be a resident electrician, then you are required to complete less hours than if you will take the professional route.

Some aspiring electricians end up taking some electrician training instead of a formal electrician program.

This usually occurs in companies that train their employees in managing and maintaining devices and wiring systems. While an electrician training program is a great plus to your resume, it is still not enough to beat a formal degree. An electrician trainee can only learn so much. In fact, he has limited skills because he can only learn what the company or the training program has taught him. So if you are currently a trainee, I advise that you search for a formal training program so that you can take a certification exam and get a higher wage per hour.

So if you are going to ask me if electrician training is good, it is if you will use it to supplement your degree and apprenticeship. But if you are thinking of getting a good pay from a mere electrician training program, you are in for a surprise. The worst that can happen is that you will not be allowed to be compensated as a technician or electrician because of poor training.

To further your career, you will need to secure a license. You can do that through an electrician certification program. This is usually an exam that will comprise of questions that will test not only your knowledge but also your skills in handling different types of situations. The electrical field is a professional area after all. It needs people who know what they are doing. Think about it. Would you hire someone to handle your electricity if they know nothing about how it works? I don’t think so. While electricity can give a building some life, it is still a tricky thing to handle if you do not know what you are doing.
